TRANSPORTATION

Wuhan, equipped with convenient water facilities, is located in Jianghan confluence. As the successive establishment of modern Beijing-Hankou Railway and Canton-Hankou Railway, as well as the construction of the national roads, highways, airports, Wuhan has become one of the country's most important water and land transportation hubs.

External Traffic

Aviation
Wuhan is airways center in Central China. Its first route was opened up in 1929. Wuhan had three passenger airport before including Nanhu Airport (disabled, was founded in 1936), Wuhan Wangjiadun Airport (disabled) and Wuhan Tianhe International Airport. Wuhan Tianhe International Airport was started using on April 15, 1995. It is the first 4F-class airport in the central region of China; also, it is comprehensive airline hub specified by the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China, is the largest and most advanced airport and aircraft maintenance base in Central China, is the only independent international terminal of the airport and the only ports of entry visas on arrival in Central China. It has 76 regular navigable cities including international cities Paris, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, etc. The airport has direct domestic flights to the major cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Nanchang, Fuzhou, Chengdu every day.

Railway
Wuhan is the main hub of the Chinese high-speed railway network, one of the China's four major rail hubs, one of the six railway passenger transportation centers, one of the four locomotive maintenance bases. Wuhan is an important railway transportation hub in Central China. The railway lines Beijing-Guangzhou Line, Xiangfan-Chongqing Line, Hanhan-Danjiang Line and other lines make Wuhan's railway transportation network extend in all directions. Every day, Wuhan has trains sent to other cities in Hubei Province, also it has direct trains access to the domestic large and medium-sized cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Harbin, Urumqi, Luoyang, Chongqing, Xi'an, Kunming, Chengdu, Liuzhou, Guangzhou, Nanchang, etc.

Highway
The No. 107, No. 316, No. 318 National Road get through Wuhan; in addition, Wuhan had highways to other neighboring cities. These highways constitute a north-south highway transportation network. There are more than 4,000 inter-city buses pass in and out of the Wuhan urban areas including some buses to the large and medium-sized cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hefei, Changsha, Zhengzhou, etc. and inter-city buses bound for the famous tourist attractions like Three Gorges, Zhangjiajie, Huangshan, Jinggangshan, etc. Most of the inter-city buses are large, luxury and comfort.

Water Transport
Wuhan is China's inland port, the shipping center in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the main rail and water transport hub designated by the Ministry of Transportation. Wuhan is China inland waterway leading to the coastal, near port of departure and port of arrival. In addition, Wuhan is China's largest inland ship production base. Wuhan Shipping Exchange is the country's fourth shipping exchange following Shanghai, Chongqing and Guangzhou.

City Traffic

Bus
Wuhan basically has direct buses to the tourists attractions. Buses are pay-to-the-driver buses. The air-conditioned bus charges 2 yuan and a double-decker bus charges 1.5 yuan or 2 yuan (air-conditioned), ordinary bus and tram charge 1 yuan per person. Wuhan has one-day tour bus beginning with the number "4" which charges 2 yuan and is air-conditioned. In addition, Wuhan has four suburb tourist buses which starts operation as early as 9:30 am.

Taxi
The price of Wuhan's ordinary taxi starts at 6 yuan (inside 2 km) with 1.5 yuan fuel surcharge and additional 1.4 yuan / km beyond 2 km. In addition, there is PEUGEOT cars which starts at 8 yuan (inside 2 km) with 1.5 yuan fuel surcharge and additional 1.6 yuan / km beyond 2 km.

Subway
Wuhan currently has only one light rail put into operation - Line 1 in Hankou District which is west from Wujiashan and east to Dijiao, east-west across Hankou. The total length of the light rail is 28.87 kilometers with 26 stations. The whole line has been put into use. Wuhan subway charges relatively cheap, the trip less than 6 stops charges 1.5 yuan, more than 6 stations charges 2 yuan.

Ferry
Ferry occupies a very important position in Wuhan's city traffic. Wuhan has existing 7 ferry lines with 15 ships: The Building of Wuhan Customs to Zhonghua Road, Longwangmiao to Hanyangmen, Wangjiaxiang to Zengjiaxiang, Qingchuan to Yellow Crane Tower, etc. General line charges 1.5 yuan / person and runs in every 20 minutes. There are bus stops within 500 meters of the ferry.
